Swim Lessons (Age 1 to 5)

Parent Plus Child Swim Lessons (Age 1 to 4)

These thirty minute classes are for children 1 to 4 years old and their parents.  The primary objective is to familiarize both the parent and child with the water.  The child will become aware of the difference between moving through water versus dry land, while the parent will become aware of how to teach his/her child to be safe in and around water.  Parents must accompany their child in the water.  There are three courses offered in this category.  Instructor to student ratio is 1:12 pairs.

Parent+Child Lesson

Parent +Child #1 (Age 1 to 2)

This is an introduction to the aquatic environment for parents and their youngster.  Parents are encouraged to develop appropriate expectations for their children as they learn basic water safety and swimming skills.  By the end of this class children should be doing some independent water exploration.

Program fee for seven week session: Family membership $56; Other members $95; Non-members $130

    • Saturdays 10:00 to 10:30 am

Parent +Child #2 (Age 3 to 4)

Children start moving more independently through the water under parents guidance.  At this point children prepare to work with an instructor on their own.

Preschool Lessons (Age 3 to 5)

This progression of lessons offers children, ages 3 to 5 years, their first experience in the pool without their parental assistance.  Children are taught the basic building blocks of swimming.  Classes are thirty minutes long.  Children are placed in a level suitable to their individual ability.  There are four levels for this age group.  Instructor to student ratio is 1:5.  Classes may be cancelled if fewer than three children register.

Young Boy Swimmer

 

Seahorse (Age 3 to 4)

A thirty minute class for children not ready for group classes OR not ready to separate from parent.  Parent has the option to start out i the water and then slowly separate allowing the child to gain confidence.

Pike

This beginner level class helps children develop safe pool behavior, adjust to the water, and develop independent movement.  Children will learn the basic paddle stroke and kicking with the use of personal floatation devices.  They will also become comfortable holding their faces in the water while blowing bubbles and swimming.

Eel

This advanced beginner class is for children who are comfortable in the water.  They are taught to kick, float, dive and perform a simple paddle stroke.  Children can swim across the width of the pool without assistance by the end of this level.  Program fee and available classes are the same as for Pike and Seahorse.

Young Girl Swimmer

 

Ray

Children begin to build endurance while improving their strokes and skills.  They learn to swim on their front and back, tread water and perform progressive diving skills.  Children can swim the width of the pool on their front and back without assistance by the end of this level.  Program fee and available classes are the same as for Pike and Seahorse.

Starfish

Children at this level refine their strokes while reviewing previously learned skills.  They also learn underwater swimming skills.  Children can swim a length of the pool on their front and back without assistance by the end of this level.  Program fee and available classes are the same as for Pike and Seahorse.
