The Y is “America’s Swim Instructor” and the most accessible community resource to prevent drowning and encourage a lifelong enjoyment of swimming. The Y introduced the country to the concept of group swim lessons more than 100 years ago, (1909), and each year, the Y teaches more than a million children invaluable water safety and swimming skills.

All of our Group lessons are scheduled for 30 minutes. We will be doing small group lessons for our Stages 3-5 and need a minimum of 3 participants to run a class.

Please click here for a YMCA Lesson Selector - If you need further assistance, please call the Aquatics Department. Or set up a FREE evaluation with our Aquatics Department.

When can I sign up for group swim lessons?

Registration for classes generally opens 2 weeks before the session starts for members and 1 week for non-members. There is no rollover registration. All classes have limited availability, so make sure to register ASAP.

What is the make-up policy?

We do offer one make-up lesson during a session. To qualify for a make-up lesson, you must call or email to cancel before your scheduled lesson. Make-ups will be scheduled during Fridays and Sundays starting the third week of the session until the seventh week of the session. Missed make-up lessons cannot be made up. Please submit the Swim Lesson Make Up Policy form to Lisa Tkach, Assistant Aquatic's Director to or call at 845 643 3052

What if I’m sick/have to cancel?

Children who have been ill should be kept at home. This is in the best interest of their health as well as the health of other class participants and the instructor. Unfortunately, non-attendance for any reason does not entitle you to a refund.

What is the instructor-to-student ratio?

Swim starters class is 1:12

Pre-school class 1:5

School Age class 1:6

Where can I watch swim lessons?

We pick the students up in the lobby and there are tv monitors so you can watch your kids in both the shallow and deep end.

Where can I change my child?

If you and your child are the same sex, or the child is under the age of 5, you can use the according locker rooms. There is also a family changing room in the lobby for ages 5+ and/or different sex.
