Senior Fitness - Nyack

Improving the mind-body connection can greatly benefit emotional and physical health, which is why it’s a vital component of our programs at the Rockland County YMCA.  We know that seniors are seeking more than physical benefits when they exercise. They also want a sense of community and to strengthen social ties. The Y has several activities to encourage older adults to take action and get involved. Socializing and volunteering have positive effects on the health of older adults, and exercise has proven to promote mental agility in addition to longevity and good health.   Maybe people 55 and older can obtain FREE access to the Rockland County YMCA thru their health insurance provider - click here for more information.

Senior Fitness Programs - We offer fitness programs for older adults such as SilverSneakers® group exercise classes, Enhance Fitness and water exercise. 

  • Enhance Fitness is an evidence-based, community-delivered exercise program proven to increase strength, boost activity levels, and elevate mood. Certified instructors offer a program that focuses on stretching, flexibility, balance, low impact aerobics, and strength training exercises. Classes meet three times a week for one hour. The YMCA has received funding to bring the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s highly acclaimed Enhance Fitness program to Rockland County.  Free for YMCA members and day pass fees for non-members Pre-registration is required.   •  SilverSneakers®  The Rockland County YMCA is proud to participate in the  Silver Sneakers Fitness Program, the nation's leading exercise program for older adults.  More than just a gym membership, Silver Sneakers participants are offered specialized exercise classes, health education and social programs that have been shown to help older adults maintain good health, reduce health care costs and lead an active, independent lifestyle.   •  Senior Water Fitness Classes - Motivation, aerobic choreography, muscle conditioning, improved cardiovascular endurance and muscle tone by using the buoyancy and resistance of the water. Great workout with no impact or harmful effects on joints/muscles and stay cool. Ideal for all fitness levels, non-swimmers included. See pool schedule for the list of classes and times
