YMCA Dance Programs

Suffern Dance Program

Contact: Becky Hallissey  (845) 357-4404

The Suffern branch of the Rockland YMCA has a well-established non-competitive dance program offering classes in Creative Ballet, Tap, Classical Ballet, Jazz, Lyrical, Hip Hop and Gymnastics Tumbling. We offer classes for children as young as 2 1/2 years through high school. Students will have the opportunity to perform in our annual spring recital held at Rockland Community College.

We provide a nurturing environment where children will learn to appreciate dance as a lifelong activity for self-expression, grace, strength, agility, creativity, and balance. Our teachers are highly qualified and care about the development of the whole person-mind, body, spirit- through dance. Consider enrolling your son or daughter in dance, activity or art classes at the Suffern branch of the YMCA.

Activity Programs

Glee Club - Participants will gain experience in performing arts through song and movement.  Music chosen for the classes will be inspired by the hit TV show GLEE!.  Students will artfully remix and revamp songs and will be introduced to "mashups" (fusing songs together).  Songs will be accompanied by guitar as well as sung a capella.  Students will have the opportunity to perform solos and participate in choreographing the dance movements.  If you love music, singing and movement you'll love the YMCA Glee Club.

Rumble Tumble fitness program - Gym, acrobatics and tumbling for boys and girls ages 3 to 8+.  Participants will learn safe and proper techniques crucial to executing tumbling tricks such as rolls, headstands, handstands and cartwheels.  This course will introduce fun activities that will develop and enhance balance, eye-hand coordination, core strength and flexibility.
