INTRODUCTION TO YOUTH SPORTS
Our Introduction to youth sports program teaches children the fundamentals of motor skills using a variety of sports including basketball, soccer, flag football, tee-ball/baseball and hockey.
Our basketball clinic are designed to develop fundamental basketball skills while learning, teamwork, strategy and sportsmanship. Children will learn basketball rules, shooting, passing and ball handling. They will also learn offensive and defensive skills like rebounding, and team play.
Volleyball at the Y gives kids a solid foundation in fitness while they learn the right skills to play one of the world’s most exciting, fastest growing sports. Kids start with basic passing and setting techniques, footwork and ball contact. Higher-level classes teach serving, hitting and blocking footwork, and incorporate small scrimmages. All classes are grouped by age and ability.
The Rockland County YMCA is offering an instructional wrestling program for beginners to learn the sport of Wrestling. The emphasis is having fun while developing strength, endurance and flexibility for young athletes.
YMCA soccer is designed to encourage participation and having fun, kids are taught basic game skills such as trapping, dribbling, passing and shooting as well as goalie skills.
In the comfort of the YMCA gym, your child can learn the basic fundamentals of tennis. With special attention to ball control, forehand/backhand swings, and serving, your child will learn it all! This program also focuses on relationship building, team building, and demonstrating the four core values of the YMCA when playing on a team.
SPORTS PERFORMANCE CLINICS
Our sports performance training improves functional movement to support the physical demands of all sports. We help athletes of all levels shore up weaknesses, decrease injury risk In this class you will work on strength training, coordination, dynamic mobility.
The Kidsafe program is designed to enhance self-esteem, self-discipline & safety awareness! Students are placed into classes according to age and ability. A black belt instructor teaches beginner, intermediate, and advanced techniques for self-defense only! Self-discipline and defense, rather than aggressiveness are emphasized throughout the course. The dangers of bullying and how to deal with peer pressure are an important part of our program.
Fencing for Kids Ages 4 to 17 - Learn fencing with three-time Olympian Mika'il Sankofa of the Thrust Fencing Academy. Thinking fast, balanced footwork and quick action with swords equals a fast, furious, fun afternoon! All equipment is supplied.
