GUEST PASSES
Members are encouraged to invite friends and family to experience the Y with them. This is generally on a day fee or guest fee basis. Guests must check in and provide photo identification. All guests must be accompanied by a Rockland County YMCA member and a $15 guest fee is required.
MEMBER CODE OF CONDUCT
The YMCA is committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment for all members and guests. To promote safety and comfort for all, all individuals are asked to act appropriately at all times when in our facility or participating in our programs.
We expect persons using the YMCA to act maturely, to behave responsibly, and to respect the rights and dignity of others. Our Member’s Code of Conduct outlines prohibited action, but the actions listed below are not an all-inclusive list of behaviors considered inappropriate in our facilities or programs.
To uphold our values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility, all of us, staff and members, need to abide by some basic rules and standards to keep our Y a healthy, safe, and a nurturing environment for all. Here are a few rules for various areas of our facilities. Thanks in advance for your supportive efforts! Each member is accountable for his or her own behavior and attitude while in the facility or associated with the YMCA programs. We ask that all individuals act and dress appropriately while utilizing the facility and participating in YMCA programs. Dress codes are posted in each program area. Our code of conduct prohibits the following:
- Teen members- Youth ages 12 and younger – must be accompanied by a parent/ guardian. Parent guardian must remain in the building with the children at all times.
- Youth ages 13 -17 with an active membership may enter at any time without adult supervision. They must be actively engaged in a program, class or activity. "Hanging out” in the program spaces/ watching TV, playing video games is not a positive or engaged activity and is not permitted.
- Angry, vulgar, or offensive language including swearing, name-calling, shouting, and refusal to follow instruction by YMCA staff.
- Use of cell phones in locker rooms, swimming pool, and other designated program areas.
- Physical contact with any person in an angry, aggressive, or threatening manner.
- Sexually explicit conversation or behavior, or sexual contact with another person.
- Harassment or intimidation by words, gestures, body language, or other behavior towards YMCA staff or others.
- Behavior that intends to or results in the theft or destruction of property (YMCA or other persons).
- Carrying or concealing any weapons or devices that may be used as weapons.
- Using or possesion of drugs, illegal chemicals or alcohol on the YMCA property, in YMCA vehices, or at YMCA-sponsored programs.
- Smoking or use of tobacco products on YMCA property -all of our buildings and grounds are smoke free.
- Loitering within the facilities or on the grounds of the YMCA after being requested to depart from the YMCA property.
- Inappropriate, immodest, or sexually revealing attire
- Theft or behavior that results in the destruction or loss of property.
*When you utilize the YMCA Nationwide Membership Program, you agree to release the National Council of Young Men’s Christian Associations of the United States of America, and its independent and autonomous member associations in the United States and Puerto Rico, from claims of negligence for bodily injury or death in connection with the use of YMCA facilities, and from any liability for other claims, including loss of property, to the fullest extent of the law.
In addition, The YMCA reserves the right to deny access or membership to any person who has been accused or convicted of any crime involving sexual abuse, is or has been a registered sex offender, has ever been convicted of any offense relating to the use, sale, possession, or transportation of narcotics or habit forming and/or dangerous drugs, or is presently or habitually under the influence of dangerous drugs or chemicals, narcotics, or intoxicating beverages.
Members and guests are encouraged to take responsibility for their personal comfort and safety by asking any person whose behavior threatens their comfort to refrain from such behavior. Anyone who feels uncomfortable in confronting a person directly should report the behavior to a staff person or the Director on duty.
YMCA staff members are eager to be of assistance. Members and guests should not hesitate to notify a staff member if assistance is needed.
In order to be able to carry out these policies, we ask that members and guests identify themselves to staff when asked.
The Branch Director will investigate all reported incidents. Suspension or termination of YMCA membership privileges may result from a determination by the Branch Director if in his/her discretion a violation of the YMCA Member’s Code of Conduct has occurred.
The YMCA conducts regular sex offender screenings on all members, participants, and guests. If a sex offender match occurs, the YMCA reserves the right to cancel membership, end program participation, and remove visitation access. CHILD PROTECTION SCREENING
The safety of the children who use our facility has always been a top priority of the Rockland County YMCA. Technology has now evolved that provides on-going screenings for registered sex offenders in all 50 states. YMCA staff uses the Raptor System to screen all members and visitors to identify unwanted visitors from entering our YMCA. If a potential threat is identified, the Raptor System will send an instant alert to designate management staff. If necessary, law enforcement will be notified. We appreciate your continued support in protecting all the children who come to our Y.
DENIAL OF MEMBERSHIP
The CEO and the President of Operations of the Rockland County YMCA has the authority to deny or revoke membership to any individual, as well as deny access on its premises, if it has been determined that said individual’s actions may jeopardize the comfort and safety of others. This includes, but is not limited to, convicted sex offenders, drug traffickers, etc.
In addition, The YMCA reserves the right to deny access or membership to any person who has been accused or convicted of any crime involving sexual abuse, is or has been a registered sex offender, has ever been convicted of any offense relating to the use, sale, possession, or transportation of narcotics or habit forming and/or dangerous drugs, or is presently or habitually under the influence of dangerous drugs or chemicals, narcotics, or intoxicating beverages.
SUSPENSIONS OR REVOCATION OF MEMBERSHIP
The CEO and the President of Operations shall have the authority to suspend or revoke anyone’s membership who engages in or has engaged in conduct inconsistent or detrimental to the purposes of the association or to the operation of any association facility as outlined in the association bylaws. See Member Code of Conduct. Length of suspension or revocation will be determined by the same authority. A person whose membership in a branch has been suspended or revoked shall not be eligible for membership in any other branch of the association during the period of suspension or revocation. Access on Y premises may also be denied by the CEO and the President of Operations.
INCLEMENT WEATHER CLOSING & CANCELLATION POLICY
The YMCA reserves the right to cancel classes or close its facilities if it feels that remaining open will jeopardize the safety of staff, members and participants. In the event of inclement weather the following guidelines will be used.
