Local Leaders Celebrate Opening of a Community Garden at Rockland County YMCA
In a display of community collaboration, the Rockland County YMCA, NYS Senator Bill Weber officially opened a new community garden today. The garden, located behind the YMCA facility, is the result of a county-wide effort involving multiple organizations. YMCA’s Teens in Action program partnered with Clarkstown for Climate to prepare the site, while Nyack Pollinators provided education on sustainable planting practices. The garden features seating areas and is open to the public, offering a tranquil space for community members.
"This garden represents the power of collaboration in our community," said a Phil Donnelly, CEO of Rockland YMCA. “The garden is a space that brings adults and teens together in volunteer efforts."
The Rockland YMCA Teens in Action group will maintain the garden, with ongoing support from community organizations. This initiative underscores the YMCA's commitment to fostering community engagement and environmental awareness among local youth.
