Leaders from the Rockland County YMCA recently traveled to Capitol Hill to advocate for policies that support youth development, community health, and nonprofit programs that strengthen families across the country. During their visit, YMCA representatives met with lawmakers to share the impact of local YMCA programs and highlight the importance of continued investment in community resources that help children, teens, and families thrive. The trip reflects the YMCA’s ongoing commitment to social responsibility and civic engagement at both the local and national level.

Thanks to Operation Warm and Subaru and the incredible support of our community, the Rockland County YMCA was able to provide 180 Nyack Head Start children with warm coats, shoes, and socks this winter. This feel-good event brought together volunteers, local leaders, and partners to make a lasting difference for families in need.

The Rockland YMCA Rangers enjoyed a memorable trip to Barclays Center, highlighted by a close win over The Sons of Hudson on an NBA court. The experience included meeting Brooklyn Nets head coach Jordi Fernández, celebrating together afterward, and watching an exciting overtime Nets game, with select players even high-fiving the team at halftime. It was a special day filled with competition, fun, and inspiration.

The 2025 YMCA Gala was a night to remember, marking one of the most successful celebrations in recent history. With more than 200 guests in attendance—the largest turnout in years—the event raised over $85,000 to support youth scholarships and vital community programs.

During a recent News 12 interview conducted by Diane Caruso, Hawthorne, now the Aquatics Director at the Nyack YMCA, shared his remarkable journey from a hesitant adult learner to a passionate instructor teaching others how to find confidence in the water. Only a few years ago, Hawthorne didn’t know how to swim. After enrolling in lessons at the Nyack YMCA, he gradually overcame his fear of deep water. Six months later, not only could he swim — he was teaching others how to do the same.
