Orange & Rockland Utilities Empower Teens Through STEAM Projects

December 3, 2024

The Rockland County YMCA is proud to acknowledge Orange & Rockland Utilities for their generous $15,000 grant, which has significantly strengthened our Teens In Action program. This grant supports an ongoing STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) curriculum that empowers teens through hands-on projects, leadership development, and social justice initiatives.

A recent visit by Orange & Rockland's Strategic Partnership Team, Linda and Lisa, offered a firsthand look at the program's impact. During their visit, the teens showcased art projects combining science and creativity, designed for our fundraising gala. These activities reflect the program's mission to inspire innovation and critical thinking while fostering community connection.

Childcare Resources of Rockland has offered curriculum expertise to support the grant. “Our Teens in Action is an incredibly popular program that is a core part of Rockland teens daily life, providing vital resources and opportunities to teens from diverse backgrounds,” said Erica D'Souza, Director of Development. “Partnerships like this bring education to life and ensure every teen can dream big and reach their full potential.” “We love that corporate partners who are committed to bringing education to life."

The grant enables the YMCA to offer teens equal access to transformative activities such as STEM workshops, community service projects, leadership training, fitness programs, and enriching excursions. Teens also gain skills in financial literacy, civic engagement, and mental health awareness, preparing them to be future leaders and advocates for social change.

This impactful program wouldn’t be possible without the generosity of partners like Orange & Rockland Utilities. On behalf of the teens, we extend our heartfelt gratitude for their visit and support. Together, we’re bridging gaps in opportunity and building a brighter future for our community’s youth.
