Teen Programs - Nyack

GIVING BACK AND PROVIDING SUPPORT TO OUR NEIGHBORS

We know that when we work as one, we move people and communities forward. That’s why we are committed to providing support to our neighbors and opportunities for kids, adults and families to give, join in or advocate in the name of stronger communities.

YMCA YOUTH & GOVERNMENT

(Grades 9 through 12)

The YMCA Youth and Government program, a nationally recognized initiative since 1936, immerses high school students in state-level government and politics, promoting civic literacy and community engagement. With a legacy of contributing to the passage of over 300 real laws across the nation, the program has a lasting impact on both individuals and communities. It empowers young voices, strengthens civic health, and offers students the opportunity to serve their schools, communities, and states through model government, civic engagement, and service-learning.

In New York, the YMCA Youth and Government program offers students from Nyack, Pearl River, Spring Valley, P-Tech and North Rockland high schools a hands-on experience with the democratic process. Over a three- to four-month winter and spring program, participants take on the roles of legislators, attorneys, judges, lobbyists, or journalists, learning how to create change through active participation in government. The program also helps students explore public service careers and develop lasting friendships, all while broadening their horizons.

Students can participate throughout their high school years, and outstanding participants, including Youth Officers, may go on to attend the prestigious YMCA National Affairs Conference in Black Mountain, NC, and the National Youth Governors Conference in Washington, DC. No matter where you're located, the YMCA Youth and Government program is the premier avenue for inspiring young people to become active, informed participants in the civic process.
