Rockland County YMCA Hosts Successful Subaru Coat & Shoe Gifting Event for Nyack Head Start Children

January 16, 2026

The Rockland County YMCA proudly hosted a heartwarming and impactful Subaru Coat & Shoe Gifting Event, providing essential winter clothing to children in need across the community. Thanks to the generosity of Operation Warm and Subaru, the YMCA was able to support 180 Nyack Head Start children, ensuring they received brand-new shoes, coats, and socks to stay warm and comfortable throughout the winter season.

For many of these families, access to winter essentials can be a financial challenge. This event helped bridge that gap, offering children not only warmth and protection from the cold, but also dignity and confidence as they headed into the colder months.

The event brought together local leaders, community partners, and volunteers who all shared a common goal: supporting local children and families. Distinguished guests in attendance included Senator Bill Weber, Legislator Raymond W. Sheridan III, Assemblyman Patrick J. Carroll, Supervisor Teresa Kenny, Nyack Mayor Joe Rand, Field Representative Ashton Coleman, and Supervisor George Hoehmann, all of whom showed their support for this important community initiative.

A dedicated team of volunteers played a vital role in the event’s success. Volunteers worked one-on-one with children to help them find shoes and coats that fit properly, creating a personalized and caring experience for every child. Their patience, kindness, and enthusiasm helped make the day memorable for both families and staff.

The remaining coats from the Subaru Gifting Event were proudly donated to the preschools at Neary School, helping keep local students warm this season.
