Help Us Make Rockland County More Swim Safe!
Sign Up for Swim Lessons and Lifeguard Training at the Rockland YMCA
One sport children enjoy the most is swimming or water-related activities, especially in the summer heat. And while summer may still be months away, we wholeheartedly believe that it’s never too early to put your kids in swim lessons to prepare them for summer at the pool, on the lake, or at the beach. At the Y, we offer families and children of all ages the chance to learn this all-important life skill.
Accompanied by a parent, infants and toddlers can learn to be comfortable in the water and develop swim readiness skills like kicking and blowing bubbles, as the parent learns about water safety, drowning prevention, and the importance of supervision. By preschool age and up, children will have the coordination to participate in organized swim lessons. This is where they will learn fundamentals such as personal water safety and achieve basic swimming competency, after which they can build stroke technique. Safety around the water is a critical element to prevent water-related accidents in children and then into adulthood.
To do our part to make our community more swim safe, we’re currently offering 10% off swim lessons for all Rockland County elementary school students. Our goal is to get our youngest residents swim ready before the summer. Lessons take place in North Rockland and Nyack. Slots are filling up fast, so hurry and take advantage of the discount before it ends on March 28th!

On the other hand — if you’re already a strong swimmer, if you stay calm under pressure, if you have a quick reaction time during emergencies, if you’re responsible, and if you’re focused and attentive, then you have all the qualities needed to be a lifeguard. Pro tip: We can help with lifeguard training, too!
Our lifeguard classes are a weekend commitment to one of the most sought-after skills. We are offering monthly classes to help meet the demand for this essential job. The next session takes place in mid-March.
